Hoosiers back!!!

The Indiana Hoosiers have fallen on hard times as of late due to a few violations committed by their previous coach Kelvin Sampson. This once proud university whose program gave us the names in the likes of Bobby Knight, Isiah Thomas, Eric Gordon and Calbert Cheaney just to name a few were relegated to the door mat of the big ten.

Starting from scratch the Hoosiers brought in coach Tom Crean from Marquette, who had a lot of success making a the Golden Eagles a house hold name in the college basketball landscape. This is Crean’s forth year running the show for the Hoosiers and when he received this team in 08 a lot of the key players either left for the NBA (DJ White and Eric Gordon) or transferred (Jordan Crawford, Xavier). Needless to say the cupboard was bare for Crean when he arrived. After 3 years of getting beat down by all comers finally he is getting the top-notch recruits he needs to be successful, the main prize being big man Freshman Cody Zeller.

Last Saturday the Hoosiers played the #1 ranked Kentucky Wildcats @ Assembly Hall. Both teams were undefeated when entering the arena but something had to give right? Somebody had to leave with a loss. The Hoosier’s played the Wildcats tough all game keeping around a 10-point lead most of the 2nd half. In the winding minutes the Wildcats made a run behind Guards Doron Lamb and Marquis Teague taking a 2 point lead with seconds remaining. Just when people were starting to say the Hoosier’s played good but blew it at the end Junior Forward Christian Watford stepped up and hit a game winning three pointer. The crowd went nuts, the player’s went nuts, the announcers went nuts, hell I even went nuts( I’m not a Hoosier but I couldn’t even hate).

Coach Crean’s Hoosiers won 73-72 and with this victory they are back on the national map like once before. We know Crean will keep building this Hoosier team up just like he did with Golden Eagles. They may not be the Bob Knight bunch but we know that the Hoosiers are back.
